Our resident fitness fanatic, Nettie works hard around the yard to maintain her muscular physique. As an expert forager and fierce mouse hunter, she keeps the coop free of pests while getting her daily cardio in. An extra boost of protein from mealworms and sunflower seeds is always a welcome treat for Miss Nettie.

Nettie is named after Nettie Metcalf, the woman credited with creating the Buckeye breed in the late 1800s. Metcalf, an Ohio resident (hence the name Buckeye!), wanted a breed that could better withstand the Midwest’s harsh winter. She was very successful; Buckeyes are highly regarded for their cold-hardiness to this day.
